Originally from Anderson, SC, I received by BA in Spanish from Furman University in 2014. As an undergraduate student I was a research assistant to Dr. Stephanie Knouse, investigating lexical variation in Spanish. Additionally, I served as the president of Furman's chapters of Sigma Delta Pi and Phi Sigma Iota. In the fall of 2012, I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain at la Universidad Nebrija. Following a year as an Auxiliar de Conversación through the Spanish Ministry of Education in Madrid, Spain (2014-15), I began my graduate studies in Hispanic Linguistics at Indiana University, Bloomington, graduating with my MA in 2017 and my PhD in 2022. 

As a graduate student, I worked under the direction of Dr. Patrícia Amaral studying semantic change, typologies of meaning, epistemic modality, and methods in experimental pragmatics. Additionally, I took course work and examinations in the fields of pragmatics, syntax, second language acquisition, sociolinguistics and task based language teaching (TBLT). My dissertation research was concerned with the pragmatic functions of epistemic adverbs in Colombian Spanish.

I currently hold the position of Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I am a resident of Raleigh, NC where I enjoy trying new restaurants and bars with friends, playing intramural sports, listening to and playing music, and attending local and touring theater productions.
